Chris Ryan

Chris Ryan is a Delaware native and recent transplant to Rehoboth Beach. Chris spent his young adult years performing, recording and releasing original music with bandmates based in Wilmington, DE. After some regional success in the Philadelphia area, Chris departed the music scene briefly to “earn a living.” The move to Rehoboth and introduction to its vibrant music scene reignited Chris’ passion for performing.

Inspired by the “unplugged” format, Chris’ belief is that all great songs begin with one voice and one instrument. “When you hear a great song, you know it, and when you take a great song back to its roots with one voice and one instrument, it’s still a great song.

As a solo guitar/vocalist, Chris brings this approach to a notably unique blend of singer/songwriter, pop, rock and soul music along with his own original work. From Carole King to Lady Gaga, from Hall & Oates to Kiss: an eclectic mix of songs you know by heart – rock, pop & soul hits and B-sides, stripped down and rebuilt in a classic solo-acoustic style. The reward,” says Chris, “is hearing people say ‘I love that song! Who did that?’” Check out Chris’ website at https://www.chrisryan.live/

Clifford Keith Band

Singer-songwriter Clifford Keith and his band are beginning to make waves in the Delaware music scene. The ‘Clifford Keith sound’ is described as a mix of classic country and early, energetic rock and roll. The band’s vocal style blends Appalachian Bluegrass with contemporary issues that resonate throughout modern culture. Currently, Keith is in the studio working on two brand new original tracks, ‘Excuse Me Miss’ and ‘South Country Blues.’ “Both songs encompass my goals as a musician,” Keith explains. He wants to bring brutally honest and heartfelt topics to his audiences through memorable melodies and tunes.

When performing live, Clifford Keith and his band perform a masterful blend of original songs of Keith’s and well-known country, folk, and Americana songs. Keith is heavily inspired by the likes of John Prine, Robert Earl Keen, and Johnny Cash, so naturally, those artists’ songs find their way into each night’s set. Fans of the band are often surprised, however, because Keith doesn’t want to be a jukebox for those standards. He reinvents them and filters them through his own sound, resulting in a delighted audience.

The group consists of Keith on lead vocals, his wife Erin M. on vocals vocals, harmonicist Luke Burton and a four-piece backing band. This is Keith’s first project as a singer-songwriter. He’s adamant about the pursuit of his passion, though, and he intends to continue to be a mainstay in the community as long as he can make a difference.

On April 9th, it is Clifford Keith Duo, performing as part of our Sunday Afternoon Music Series

Inspired by their troubadour style, relatable stories and strong lyrics, Jason’s own music is a melting pot of country, folk and roots rock and roll. Jason’s own personal story is written in his songs and shared openly in his live performance. Jason’s travels, his military experiences and his love for coastal living right here in the First State are clear and dominant themes in his writing. Mick Fury

Mick Fury.  You need to click on the link below and listen to this man sing.

Mick has toured and played over 150 shows in the past year.  He’s been fortunate enough to share the stage with everyone from Bret Michaels to Brothers Osborne to Marshall Tucker Band, and was a CMA and Key West Songwriter Fest performer. His solo show is fun blend of country covers and originals, classic rock, and crowd pleasers.  He performs everything from Johnny Cash to Allman Brothers to Ed Sheeran.  In a nutshell, it’s a good time show.

From Mick:

“Ok let’s get you caught up on my story. I know, I’m supposed to pretend this is being written by some wordsmith that’s tells ya how great I am. This ain’t how a “bio” is supposed to read. Well this ship flies under different sails. Since I struck out on my own a decade ago, I’ve never lived over the poverty line. I’ve worked as a drug store clerk in my hometown of Syracuse, NY, as a jingle writer in my current home of Nashville, TN, and as a flower delivery guy once on Valentine’s Day in Watts, CA. That was probably the most interesting one. I’ve been lucky enough to share the stage with everyone from Bret Michaels to Marshall Tucker to the Stone Temple Pilots in my rock days, and now Craig Campbell, Travis Tritt and Brothers Osborne in the Country World. I was fortunate to have a stand up Pops who taught me how to play the guitar, mostly so I could back him up in his bands, and showed me the meaning of hard work. I was also unfortunate enough to lose my mother to cancer at age 7, which sent me spiraling out of control through my teens and beyond. I’ve seen things in my short time on Earth that would make Hank Williams Jr. blush, and thats what I sing about. Reeling in an off the rails life, following love, and opening up some folks’ eyes to things that need fixin’. Our previous bio read that our live show is like “Garth Brooks meets Zac Brown.” Thats exactly what the show is, a jam band with a big personality up front. But nobody ever said that, I made all that crap up. I’m the hardest working guy you’ll meet and we’re making this thing fly and having a hell of a time doing it, wanna ride?”

Mick will be performing three consecutive shows at The Pond in June, July and September.
Thursday will be more of a singer/songwriter laid back kind of show.  But who knows?  He could be kicking it up a few notches.
Friday is going to be a very high energy show that gets people up dancing and having a ball.  He will be keeping the party going until close.
And the Saturday show, well it will be a fantastic combination of the two.

“Lady sings the blues … and she does it mighty fine. The lady in question can be captivating, wickedly soulful and eloquent all at the same time. She is none other than Pennsylvania’s First Lady of Blues, Octavia, a singer, songwriter, guitarist, harmonica player and blues-infused wonder. How gifted is this Philly native? So gifted one might ponder how all that talent can be crammed into just one person. “We are not simply playing and singing a bunch of songs. This band takes you on a journey of feel good,” she said. That euphoric blues feeling occurs from the band’s carefully arranged tight shows filled with back-to-back high-energy blues dance music. Suzanna and AJ performed nationally for fifteen years as Red Letter Day, with an edge bordering more on raw soul sharing due to influences from a gospel, soul and blues/rock background. Sean Holloran

The Virginia born, Maryland raised singer/songwriter Sean Holloran continues to expand his fan base around the world as his popularity takes him from playing local beach bars to a successful career as a recording artist and touring musician. With over 70,000 likes and counting on Facebook, Sean’s live shows and new recordings are garnering him a growing fan base which is taking him to the next level in the entertainment world.

Like many elementary school aged kids, Sean took the parentally required piano lessons and even sang in the church choir. However, by middle school, music was left behind in favor of sports and other teenage interests. Sean returned to Virginia to attend Randolph-Macon College outside of Richmond. At a fraternity party during his senior year, a friend showed him a couple of cords on a guitar and Sean was hooked. Soon, a used guitar and late night access to the college’s pianos led Sean down the song-writing path.

After graduation, Sean briefly tried the business world but soon he moved from the confines of a cubicle to kicking back at the beach. He started out singing for his supper at the local bars and then expanded his reach around the Mid-Atlantic area. A year later, with the cash he had saved and several original songs in hand, Sean headed into Omega Recording Studios where he recorded “It’s The Way”, “Into You”, and “Right Where You Are”. The songs were mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound in New York City and released as an EP in August of 2011. Sales on iTunes and Sean’s growing popularity led to his own channels on Pandora and Spotify. Airplay on independent stations around the country and now the world has led to interviews on radio and TV programs along with an ever expanding concert schedule.

Sean just released “Here In The Sun”, the first single & video of the summer, which was mastered in Los Angeles by Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios.

SKRIBE

Who is SKRIBE? Well, he travels from town to town in a blue hearse spreading his own blend of garage folk: An unpretentious soulful sub-genre that draws from roots Americana & the 60’s garage rock spirit. Skribe plays an oil can called a canjo-zookie. It’s an eight-string guitar with a biting, blues-y rasp. Skribe’s got the voice (and the old-school Cadillac) to match. Accompanying himself on the suitcase-kick and hi-hat, Skribe’s “M.I.Y.” is a barn-burning roots number.

They call it “garage folk,” perhaps because the music is crafted without any more polish than it needs to showcase the allure of its soulfully delivered down-to-earth lyrics. The focus of Skribe’s sound is rhythmic acoustic strumming and plucking with emphatic vocals that epitomize the musical landscape of the area’s small-town city feel. Oh yeah, and the kazoo. Who knew you could elevate a quasi-irritating kid’s birthday party favor to a desirable sounding musical instrument?! -Lindsay Bolin Lowery – Visit Annapolis / LBo Craft

Sweet Leda

Sweet Leda has been performing at The Pond almost since its inception.  And all of us here have a huge crush on this band, especially Julie.

Sweet Leda, powered by Julie Cymek’s sultry, commanding vocals and electrifying stage presence, Sweet Leda is taking the diverse mid-Atlantic music scene by storm as one of the most exciting and accomplished live acts on the rise. In fact, Lou Plaia (co-founder of Reverbnation) describes them as “the highlight of every festival they play.” With its rich blend of new school funk,
psychedelic rock, soul and pop, Sweet Leda’s heartfelt original music can best be described as a female-fronted, soul-based, Zeppelin meets Chili Peppers!

Sweet Leda’s sophomore album Let It In captures the live and raw essence of what can only come from years of steady gigs, blood, sweat, and a few tears. To capture this essence, the band recorded all together in one room, tracking analog to 2” tape. What came out of the process is an intimate, in-your-face, edgy sound that exemplifies Sweet Leda live, at their best.Let It In was recorded and engineered at WrightWay in Baltimore by IRKO (Jay-Z, J Lo, Pitbull, Talib Kweli), mastered by Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Beck, Dr John), and produced by Sweet Leda’s very own “fifth Beatle,” Stephen Joseph Antonelli, who also produced and recorded the band’s first album, Need The Music.

The Girlfriends

The Girlfriends are an all female band from the Philadephia area, performing your favorite cover songs, particularly from the 80’s.

A pioneer in the “all-female” rock band genre and a hot item on the Philadelphia rock music menu in the early to mid 1980’s, in 2011 The Girlfriends reunited and returned to the music scene with a fresh new sound (and minus the parachute pants!).

According to bassist Robin Rohr, while the 1980’s led to a synth explosion and paved the way for much of the techno advances that we take for granted today (sampled sounds, MIDI), “obviously to play our songs the same way now wouldn’t resonate with today’s audience.” So the band has gone back to basics with a stripped-down sound featuring acoustic guitar and bass, along with the steady beat of Jill Brady on drums. “It’s really about getting back to the song, not the sound”, said guitarist Kim Butler. “A well written song stands the test of time-and it will not matter if you play it on a guitar, piano, thru Muzak on an elevator or on a kazoo.”

The Head

The Pond Bar & Grill is excited to announce that Atlanta’s THE HEAD, will make their debut at The Pond on Thursday, April 26th at 9:30.pm. This is a MUST SEE event!!

Faced with a modern music scene that champions washed out bedroom recordings designed to be enjoyed alongside a cup of cold brew or craft beer, The Head make music that feels honest to them.

Brothers Mike Shaw (bass, vocals) and Jack Shaw (drums) and Jacob Morrell (guitars) have been jamming together since high school, writing and performing original songs inspired by the bands they love: trippy Brits like Stone Roses, Spiritualized, Ride, The Verve and Echo and the Bunnymen, and moody Americans like The National, Scott Walker and early R.E.M.

After logging more than 200 nights on the road, The Head returned home to Atlanta to record with producers Tanner Hendon & Wyatt Oates at Madison Studios.  The result is Space, their debut 13-song LP that defines The Head’s lush sound and defies lo-fi conventions.”

Union Road Duo

Union Road is a stylish pop-folk duo based out of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, featuring guitarist/vocalist Neil Helgeson, Jr. and Meredith Jones. At the age of 15, Neil had a choice between a Dalmatian puppy or a guitar; he chose the puppy but was surprised to receive both. Self-taught, Neil practiced 5-10 hours a day honing his skills and is now an accomplished song writer, composer, arranger and performer.

Neil first heard Meredith sing in the church they both attend and was left speechless, she is that amazing. Growing up with four musical sisters and a music-teacher-mother, Meredith has enjoyed making music for her entire life. Many months after Neil first heard Meredith sing, she transferred to Salisbury University to finish her degree. Neil spoke to her immediately upon forming a group.
